August 22 Small Craft Shawnigan Lake Results
The results from the Small Craft Series event on Shawnigan Lake are in!
It was mostly the regular crowd for this one, and every angler in the field has put plenty of time in on Shawnigan.
A Wild Start to the Day
The shotgun start had everyone positioned on their favourite honey holes before lines in, and what a start it was!
A torrential downpour arrived just as the event began. Thankfully, it did not last long.
Most anglers appeared to be targeting deep drops and weedlines, and those patterns produced several strong limits.
Now, On to the Top Three!
🥇 First Place: Catherine Pleasance
Catherine Pleasance took first place with a five-fish limit totalling 91.75 inches!
The Queen of Bass is back!
Catherine came into the event with a plan: launch near the west arm and target the drops, flats, and weedlines in that area. It was a great plan, well executed, and it delivered the win.
Along with the first-place pot, Catherine will receive a $75 gift card to The Harbour Chandler Ltd., generously sponsored by Jonathan and Tristan Harwood of Mr. Sparkle Exterior Cleaning.
Congratulations, Cath. Way to go!
🥈 Second Place and Big Bass: Jake Watson
Jake Watson finished in second place with a five-fish limit totalling 90 inches.
Jake had missed the last couple of derbies while supporting his son, Isaac, in his sporting endeavours, so it was great to see him back on the water.
Jake also arrived with a plan. Before lines in, he headed in the opposite direction from the rest of the field. His strategy paid off with a podium finish and the Big Bass of the tournament, a true Shawnigan slab measuring 20.75 inches!
Well done, Jake. It was great to see you out there again!
🥉 Third Place: Freddy Landman
Freddy Landman rounded out the podium with a five-fish limit totalling 86.50 inches.
We spent some time fishing near Freddy, and he was hammering them while we were there.
Fishing deep is nothing new for Freddy, and he always seems to find them.

August 15 Boater Series Results from Shawnigan Lake

The results from the Boater Series event on Shawnigan Lake are in!
First, we want to thank everyone who joined us today. Once again, we had some new faces in the crowd. Welcome to the WFL! We hope you enjoyed your day and look forward to seeing you at future events.
A Busy Day on Shawnigan
It was a pretty decent day on the lake. The wind stayed light, and the boat traffic was not nearly as heavy as we have experienced during some recent outings.
From the conversations after the event, catching fish was not the problem. Our anglers may have landed more than 300 fish throughout the day!
Finding quality fish was the real challenge.
The morning bite was strong, with many teams putting together a five-fish limit by 9:00 a.m. From there, the focus shifted to finding upgrades.
Some teams concentrated on specific areas of the lake, while others moved around and revisited their most productive spots. With only half an inch separating the top three, every upgrade mattered!
Now, On to the Top Three!
🥇 First Place: Erik Cadorette and Emmerson Sperrer
Competing in their very first WFL event, Erik Cadorette and Emmerson Sperrer made an immediate impact by taking the win with a five-fish limit totalling 91.75 inches!
What an entrance!

🥈 Second Place: Matt Benson
Fishing solo, Matt Benson secured second place with a five-fish limit totalling 91.50 inches.
Only a quarter of an inch separated Matt from the top spot.
Congratulations, Matt. That was an impressive solo performance!
🥉 Third Place: Jason and Tyler LeBlanc
Jason and Tyler LeBlanc rounded out the top three with a five-fish limit totalling 91.25 inches.
With only half an inch separating first and third place, this one came right down to the wire.
Well done, boys. Nice fishing!
Big Bass: A Tie!
The Big Bass honours were shared by Jason LeBlanc and Steve Gregory-Allen, who each landed a Shawnigan slab measuring 20.25 inches!
Congratulations to both anglers on a pair of outstanding fish!

Small Craft Series Results: Langford Lake
Greetings, anglers!
A Tough Day on Langford
What a grind for the handful of anglers who made it out.
We had a little rain, a little wind, and maybe even a little bite, if you could call it that.
Only one angler managed to put together a full five-fish bag, and it certainly did not come easily. A slight morning bite gave our winner the opportunity to find most, if not all, of his fish.
For everyone else, there was no real bite window. Anglers picked up a fish here and there, but most were either too small or the wrong species.
Needless to say, it was a tough day for everyone.
Now, On to the Top Three!
🥇 First Place: Freddy Landman
Freddy Landman took the win with a five-fish limit totalling 71 inches!
Freddy also took home a $75 Harbour Chandler gift card, generously donated by Mr. Sparkle Exterior Cleaning, courtesy of Jonathan and Tristan Harwood.
Well done, Freddy. Way to grind it out and scrape together the only full bag of the derby!
🥈 Second Place: Catherine Pleasance
Catherine Pleasance finished in second place with two fish totalling 37.25 inches.
We had a front-row seat for one of those catches, and that fish had wings!

Kathryn Landman finished in third place with two fish totalling 35.50 inches.
Kathryn also landed the BIG BA$$ of the derby, an absolute slab measuring 20 inches!

Boater Series Event #4 Results: Elk/Beaver Lake
Greetings, anglers!
The results from Boater Series Event #4 on Elk/Beaver Lake are in!
First, as always, we want to thank everyone who came out and participated in today’s event. We would also like to extend a warm welcome to the newest members of the WFL. It is great to see the group continuing to grow.
A Day of Bite Windows
Today was definitely a hit-or-miss kind of day.
We have to agree with Cory, who summed it up perfectly: “The midday bite is trash.”
Where teams happened to be during the two productive bite windows seemed to determine how their day went. The morning bite was by far the strongest, and from what we could tell, that is when most teams put the better part of their bags together.
The bite slowed considerably through the middle of the day, but it picked up again for some anglers during the final hour. We heard a couple of stories about teams landing their fifth fish during that late window, making for an exciting finish.
Elk Lake was hit hard, and all the main types of structure produced fish. Points, drops, and weedlines all gave up catches throughout the event.
Now, On to the Top Three!
🥇 First Place: Cory Cox and Chris Grant
Cory Cox and Chris Grant took the win with a five-fish limit totalling 95 inches!
Chris also claimed the Big Fish Pot with an absolute giant slab of a largemouth.
We are pretty sure glide baits and swimbaits had something to do with their success, but they are welcome to lie to us in the comments if they want. Just kidding!

🥈 Second Place: Chad Keogh and Chris Rempel
Chad and Chris finished in second place with a five-fish limit totalling 91.75 inches.
We saw these guys flying past a couple of times, but we are not sure exactly how their day unfolded. Hopefully, they will fill us in on our Facebook page.
Congratulations, guys. That was a great bag of fish!
🥉 Third Place: Dave Pedersen and Jesse McMullan
Dave Pedersen and Jesse McMullan rounded out the top three with a five-fish limit totalling 88.25 inches.
A huge shout-out to Jesse. He was on fire from the very first cast, catching four of the team’s five fish and continuing to find upgrades throughout the day.
Fishing plastics low and slow was the ticket. Dave and Jesse caught plenty of fish, although most could not compete with the quality they found during the morning bite. They still managed to grind out a couple of afternoon upgrades to secure third place.

June 13 Shawnigan Lake HOT HOT HOT: WFL Boater Series Event Recap!
What a wild, hot, and action-packed day on Shawnigan Lake for today’s Western Fishing League Boater Series tournament! The summer heat was out in full force, and by the afternoon, the lake turned into an absolute "washing machine" with all the wake boats hitting the water. Despite the heavy rollers and the scorching sun, our anglers absolutely crushed it, putting up some incredible numbers and beautiful fish.
Here is how the leaderboard shook out after an intense day of competition:
🥇 1st Place: Black Label Big Bites
Anglers: Catherine Pleasance & Erick Pay - 93.75"
Talk about a masterclass in consistency! Catherine and Erick absolutely dominated the field today without even needing a 20” class kicker. Their five-fish bag was a fortress of heavy hitters, going 19.00", 19.00", 18.75", 18.50", and 18.50". Truly an incredible performance that proved a balanced, top-tier bag takes home the crown!
🥈 2nd Place: WhatTheFish
Anglers: TheReel Chad Chad Keogh & Chris Rempel – 89.50”
Chad and Chris put on a clinic today, chasing the top spot right down to the wire. Anchored by an impressive 19.25” beauty, the WhatTheFish crew locked down a well-deserved second place. Fantastic job on a tough afternoon!
🥉 3rd Place: Green Basstards
Anglers: Jake Watson & Jeremy Herron – 85.25”
Rounding out our podium is the Green Basstards squad. Jake and Jeremy fished hard and put together a rock-solid 85.25” limit to edge out a tight field for third place. Way to stay focused amidst the afternoon boat traffic!
Big Bass of the Day
While the top spots were all about consistency, we have to give a massive shoutout to Jason Gill for landing the absolute giant of the tournament—a stunning 20.50” Shawnigan hog! What a fish!
The Photo Board Learning Curve!
As a strict Catch-Photograph-Release league, fish care and precise measuring are everything to protect our local fisheries. Today brought a whole lot of yellow and red to the scoring sheet! From open mouths to a few fish unfortunately placed upside down on the boards, the rulebook kept our scoring officials on their toes.
Consider today a fun, educational reminder for the next event: keep those mouths fully closed, keep 'em right-side up, and let's keep those deductions off your scorecards!

Results from the Shawnigan Small Craft Event May 31, 2026
The results are in for the Small Craft event on Shawnigan Lake.
Once again, the Shawnigan wind made its presence known. It seems that every time the small boats hit this lake, the wind is not on our side—and for most of the day, that held true.
Some anglers chose to fish the west arm, while others stayed on the main body of the lake. It definitely wasn’t an easy day out there, and sorting through the smaller fish got old quickly. Fortunately, there were still some solid, board-worthy catches in the mix.
Top 3 Results:
🥇 1st Place – Freddy Landman
Freddy brought in a 5-fish limit totaling 91.25", earning him his second win of the season (also taking top spot at the Elk/Beaver event).
He will receive his second $75 gift certificate to Harbour Chandler, generously provided by Tristan and Jonathan Harwood of Mr. Sparkle Exterior Cleaning.

🥈 2nd Place – Dave Pedersen
Dave finished with a 5-fish limit totaling 91.00".
He also landed the Big Fish of the Day—an impressive 20.25" smallmouth slab.
🥉 3rd Place – Catherine Pleasance
Catherine, the “Queen of Bass,” secured another podium finish with a 5-fish limit totaling 90".
This was a particularly special bag—it included the largest largemouth submitted to date from Shawnigan Lake. At 18.25" and 4 lbs, this fish—nicknamed “Big Mama” from the west end—looked incredibly healthy and is one of the biggest many of us have heard of coming out of the lake.
